Blog Gorak Shep

group at gorak shepToday we reached Gorak Shep, which is 17,000 feet high and the last village before reaching Mt. Everest Base Camp. We should make it up there in the next couple of days, after acclimating. It is below freezing and the air is thin, so it hard to sleep. I feel OK, but have a constant headache. I have met and interviewed several more Sherpas along the Path, including a few who have reached the Summit multiple times. There are several big expeditions rolling into the area so there should be a lot of Sherpas and climbers to meet over the next several days.

I asked Jumbu, one of the Sherpas on my expedition, “what are you thinking about when you trek for so many hours?” He replied simply, “Enjoy.” I am trying to enjoy every moment.
